For over a year I've been working on revamping the B.U.T.T.S. League's own website to make it more accessible and easier to use for all. More specifically, the efforts have been put into putting the important information up front. For example, the first thing you see on the home page is now the current league standings rather than hidden behind a menu.
Another key part of the website is that it works well on screens of all sizes. The website now resizes tables and even will contract place names where it makes sense, all to make it easier to consume the data that is important to you.
The league schedule page has been streamlined to make it intuitive to find out when and where league shoots are (and who is going).
Of course, the old website won't be going anywhere any time soon. It has so much information from the past 24 or so years that I couldn't possibly move it all to the new site nicely. The old website will now be available at old.buttsleague.com. Don't worry, it won't be going anywhere any time soon.
On top of all of the changes, I have also made the website open source. This means that anyone who is curious about how it is built or has something they want to add to it themselves, they can!
With the new website come a few small changes to the league's operation as well. Namely, these are:
- It is no longer required for at least 1 person in a boat race to have an alcoholic beverage - or simply, everyone can consume soft drinks in a team if they want.
- The badge scores for the WA18 indoor round have been made available online
- The WA50m and WA70m 72 arrow rounds have been added to the list of rounds you can claim badges from (and the scores made available)
This new website is part of the publicity initiative I wished to start as League Organiser, along with the live reporting/photography, and post-leg recaps and editorials. This initiative is the next step for the league towards us showing that not only can we shoot well, but we are a shining example for all things archery in the UK.
